Opera, the multi-platform web browser, announces the decision to remove the sign-in barrier for its AI tool, Aria. The move seeks to lower the threshold for users, making its AI more accessible across all operating systems and browsing platforms. Aria AI has real-time web access and currently offers features like image generation, image understanding, content writing, text-to-speech capabilities and more.
Opera has strived to make its AI solution as accessible as possible in a competitive environment, launching its built-in browser AI in 2023. Since then Aria has been upgraded with new features, however, the company announced in a series of posts on X that it will now be freely available to users.
Krystian Kolondra, EVP of Browsers and Gaming at Opera, explained the intent behind the move,
“We believe that AI should be available to everyone, and this change makes it easier for users to experience the benefits of Aria.”
Aria AI is available to Opera One, Opera GX and Android beta users immediately, with accessibility for Android and iOS slated for the coming weeks. This will enable users to use Aria AI’s real-time web access features with context-aware assistance for the content on the web page currently being viewed.
The AI-enabled browser uses Opera’s AI Composer engine to handle user queries, selecting either Google Gemini or GPT, based on the task. This aligns with the company’s sustainability initiatives as it scales its AI deployments. Opera has invested in an AI data cluster in Iceland that’s powered by green energy, allowing it to scale AI-focused projects while optimizing costs and environmental impact.
The move will also give users access to AI Feature Drops to experiment with Aria AI’s features, including image generation, image recognition, page context mode, AI writer and composer among others. Users accessing Aria AI without logging in will also be able to download Local LLMs directly within the AI-enabled browser. The announcement of the removal of Opera’s log-in requirement will improve access to Aria AI and let users experience its robust capabilities.
