October 9, 2024, New York -A recent research report by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV), in partnership with Oxford Economics, underscores the pivotal role mainframes play in advancing AI innovation and hybrid cloud strategies.
In the survey of 2551 IT executives from different cultures, 78% of organizations have added an AI functionality to the applications on their mainframes.
This is interpreted as critical for improving business processes and achieving digital transformation in various sectors.

Said Kevin Hamilton, IBM’s Vice President of Mainframe Strategy.
He noted that Mainframes are good for processing very large volumes of data which is a requirement for any
AI. It was also highlighted that 90% of organizations are implementing AI-fueled cyber security projects with 82% using mainframes for cyber threat detection and response.These systems have strong security threats thus ideal for the protection of important information.
Besides security issues, 79 % of respondents were in agreement with the statement that mainframes are critical for AI-enabled innovation and the creation of value.

By embedding AI into transactional workloads, companies are able to derive actionable information, provide services more effectively, and accelerate growth.
As companies continue to adopt hybrid cloud strategies, the research report highlights the need for upskilling professionals in mainframe technology to maximize its potential for AI and cloud integration.
