Cognite Partners with Ecowende, HUB Ocean for AI-Powered Ecology Initiative

AI Powers New Sustainable Wind Farm Collaboration Between Cognite, HUB Ocean, and Ecowende

AUSTIN, Texas / OSLO, Norway – October 11, 2024—Today, Cognite, HUB Ocean, and Ecowende announced a game-changing agreement to develop an Ecology Data Repository (EDR) with integrated Artificial Intelligence for offshore wind farm project development.

The collaboration aims to be a game changer in ecological data management by improving accountability and responsibility in the sphere of renewable energies.

The EDR will collect ecological information from various sensors, bird counts, underwater sounds, and fluid oceanic conditions and combine them into one database.

Factors like social or wind farm production on birds’ ecology, will be established in Cognite’s Data Fusion® platform, where all this information will be preserved.

“Ecowende is on a mission to develop the first wind farm in harmony with nature, which aligns perfectly with Cognite and HUB Ocean’s shared vision for a more sustainable industrial future,”

Said Tjalling de Bruin, CEO at Ecowende.

“Together, we will create a data sharing model for research, ocean science, and environmental management around offshore wind activities.”

Universal dissemination of the data collected will be on FAIR terms, making HUB Ocean a great attraction for the scientific community worldwide.

“HUB Ocean is committed to supporting Ecowende in achieving its ambitious goals for the Ecology Data Repository,”

Said Kimberly Mathisen, CEO of HUB Ocean.

“We are also proud to expand our partnership with Ecowende to help develop a digital platform for modern environmental monitoring. Our combined expertise, coupled with the robust, scalable, and powerful data management and AI capabilities of Cognite Data Fusion, provides a solution that supports environmentally- conscious offshore wind operations.”

This initiative was launched during Ocean Data Action Day 2024 in Oslo, celebrating an event organized by Microsoft and Accenture to encourage the sharing of ocean data for industrial purposes.

The sharing of such large-scale ecological data by Ecowende is a novelty in the offshore wind sector and sets a benchmark for other projects to follow.

“Cognite and HUB Ocean present a unified approach to deliver the EDR, ensuring Ecowende benefits from a top-tier industrial software company and state-of-the-art domain expertise,”

Said Laxmi Akkaraju, Chief Customer Officer at Cognite.

The cause of this technological advancement is to support ongoing research, enabling informed decision-making and promoting transparency within the renewable energy sector.
