15th-Oct-2024-SAN JOSE, CA – KIOXIA CORPORATION – Kioxia Corporation demonstrated its AI-efficient XD Series SSD utilizing Flexible Data Placement (FDP) technology at the 2024 OCP Global Summit yesterday.
The high-end SSD exhibited significant improvement in RocksDB performance, which is one of the important databases in generative AI and cloud applications.
Explaining FDP as defined in NVM Express™ Specification, allows individuals to be precise with the position of data in SSDs. This gives the flexibility to the SSD to eliminate unwanted movements of the data, which enhances both lifetime and efficiency.
In the tests that have been completed so far, the company’s FDP-enabled SSD MacBook was able to last about 3 times longer and approximately 1.8 times the performance in AI-driven environments, against the normal SSD MacBook.
“This breakthrough improves both the speed and endurance of SSDs, key factors in demanding AI workloads,”
Stated Takeshi Okada, Chief Engineer at Kioxia.
At the summit, Kioxia’s vivid presentation engaged attendees in several ways, one of them was the way in which FDP’s cost-efficient ways were presented in the presentation, which enhanced the qualities of total SSD without the need to alter host software.
This technology will be able to let the easy, quick processing of data happen for AI purposes to data storage devices on which such storage is high-performing.
Still planning for the more productive advances of AI as well as the cloud provisions, Kioxia seeks to offer an XD Series SSD-compatible plugin for RocksDB free of charge. This will give the opportunity to those who want to improve the strategies of data-oriented towards AI and those who wish to use FDP.
“We feel that this is a significant progression in AI infrastructure and are glad that we can offer the advantages of the FDP to the wider technology world,”
Stated Naomi Suzuki, Director, Technology Development of Kioxia.
Focusing on the current evaluations, Kioxia also aims to expand the limits of performance of SSDs for AI, Cloud Applications, and other such areas.
