Paris, France – 17th October 2024 – The latest report from the Capgemini Research Institute, titled “Gen AI at Work: Shaping the Future of Organizations,” emphasizes how generative artificial intelligence can revolutionize workforce management.
The findings show that Gen AI can have a positive effect on careers in the early stages and change the nature of managerial positions in the future. According to the report, AI will improve human-AI collaboration, create new job roles, and help leaders specialize in their roles.
The report, however, stresses that Gen AI adoption is in its early stages and that most workers lack the necessary skills to leverage it effectively.
Over the next three years, the report states, entry-level roles will become more autonomous and transform into management positions. Owing to this trend, the number of managerial roles across teams could rise from 44% to 53% while 18% of managers say that Gen AI will in fact reduce the number of middle managers.
Furthermore, according to 81% of leaders, new positions like data curators, algorithm trainers and ethical AI experts will emerge. This was aptly summed up by Roshan Gya, CEO of Capgemini Invent and member of the Group Executive Committee, who said,
“Generative AI tools are becoming more adept at assisting with complex managerial tasks, which could challenge the status quo of organizational structure and ways of working.”
The report also highlighted that 97% of leaders and managers have experimented with Gen AI, but merely 15% utilize it daily. Moreover, 46% of teams say that AI is simply there to improve existing capabilities and workflows. This indicates that, despite optimism, the actual utilization of Gen AI remains low.
Capgemini’s report says organizations must quickly prioritize training and cultivating Gen AI competencies to close the gap. The potential of generative AI to automate repetitive operations could free up managers’ time for more innovative and strategic decision-making, transforming traditional organizational structures.
The report, surveying 1,500 respondents from 500 enterprises, emphasizes the need to restructure hierarchies to facilitate more efficient human-AI collaboration. The report also concludes that most workers lack the training to adopt Gen AI, and the issue must be addressed to succeed in the AI-driven business landscape of the future.
