October 18, 2024, Dubai-Ericsson and e& International signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at GITEX Global 2024, aiming to explore AI-driven autonomous networks. This collaboration will focus on responsible AI deployment to enhance innovation, network autonomy, and sustainability.
“With UAE as one of the leading countries in Artificial intelligence, there is no better place or time for this collaboration between our two companies. Artificial intelligence and automation will play pivotal roles in shaping the networks of the future.
Said Ekow Nelson, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit for e& at Ericsson Middle East and Africa,
By combining Ericsson’s global expertise with e&’s forward-thinking strategy and the UAE’s leadership in AI, we aim to pioneer the development of autonomous networks to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to environmental sustainability. This collaboration is about more than just technology – it’s about creating a positive impact for e&’s customers, communities, and the planet.”
AI will play a pivotal role in automating complex tasks, reducing the need for manual intervention, and improving the accuracy of network management. This not only increases performance but also allows for quicker adaptations to dynamic network demands.
A crucial component of the partnership is its alignment with environmental sustainability. The use of AI-driven autonomous networks can significantly reduce energy consumption by optimizing resources, a critical step in helping e& achieve its ambitious goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
Furthermore, the deployment of energy-efficient AI technologies could serve as a blueprint for other telecom operators globally, promoting greener and more sustainable practices.
“At e&, our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence goes beyond innovation – it is about creating a sustainable future for generations to come. Our memorandum of understanding with Ericsson marks a critical step in our journey toward autonomous networks, which will not only transform the way we operate but also enable us to meet our ambitious net-zero targets.
Said Sabri Yehya, Chief Technology Officer, e& international,
We are confident that through responsible artificial intelligence deployment, we can lead the way in driving positive change across the industry and civil society.”
The collaboration also extends beyond just technological innovation. Ericsson and e& will engage in continuous knowledge-sharing, working to inspire the broader telecommunications industry to adopt AI and automation.
This effort positions the partnership as a leader in responsible AI deployment, ensuring that advancements benefit not only their businesses but also society at large.
As AI and automation become more integral to the telecommunications industry, this MoU marks a critical step toward future-proofing networks while contributing to a more sustainable and efficient digital ecosystem.
