Grameenphone and Ericsson Join Forces to Propel AI, Automation in Telecom

Bangkok, November 7, 2024 – Grameenphone, the largest telecom operator in Bangladesh, has joined hands with Ericsson to promote artificial intelligence and automation in the telecom sector in Bangladesh. The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines collaboration that is focused on workshops, technology trials, and pilot projects, designed to advance innovation and sustainable transformation in the sector.

This partnership utilizes Ericsson’s knowledge of artificial intelligence and market-leading automation solutions to boost Grameenphone’s networks, improving the customer experience and reinforcing Grameenphone’s position as the leading telecom provider in Bangladesh.

“Partnering with Ericsson is a key step towards the telco tech vision of Grameenphone,” said Niranjan Srinivasan, Chief Information Officer of Grameenphone. “The technology that we intend to collaborate on will transform and deliver a superior experience for our customers built on our common AI-first approach & ambition.”

Besides undertaking internal assignments, the partnership will venture out to external industry players, government agencies, and regulatory authorities in order to create an enabling environment for sustainable growth and digital transformation.

David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, commented on the partnership, saying,

“We are thrilled to build upon our collaboration with Grameenphone in this innovative initiative. Our award-winning AI and Automation solutions will allow Grameenphone to respond even better to the evolving needs of its customers and meet the increasingly complex demands on the network.”

Strategic in nature and signed during Innovate Asia 2024, the MoU is in tandem with Bangladesh’s priorities on digital transformation that advocate for strong and effective infrastructure. This is an important milestone in the Grameenphone and Ericsson relations which started in 1998, as Bangladesh moves toward a more connected and tech-enabled future.
