December 17, 2024, London – Latest government records show how AI is playing an essential role in the transformation process public services have undergone, creating more opportunities for citizen support, increased trade facilitation, and efficient decision-making. The government has also been guided by its Plan for Change in making services modern and propelling economic growth in the country.
Examples include the Foreign Office deploying AI for faster assistance to overseas citizens, the Ministry of Justice improving understanding of citizen interaction with the justice system, and the Department for Business and Trade predicting high-potential exporters and targeting assistance to them. Before, slow manual processes hampered outreach, but AI now enables quicker identification of businesses prepared for international expansion.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds extolled the contribution of AI to economic growth.
“Our Plan for Change will deliver economic growth, and for that to succeed we need to support companies across the UK to realise their full potential when it comes to exporting around the globe.”
Science Secretary Peter Kyle points out that technology has the potential to reduce backlogs.
“Technology has huge potential to transform public services for the better. We will put it to use to cut backlogs, save money and improve outcomes for citizens across the country.”
Documented as per the Algorithmic Transparency Recording Standards (ATRS), the records ensure accountability, showing how artificial intelligence tools are developed, managed, and utilized, having human oversight on final decisions.
The government commits to responsible use of artificial intelligence in enhancing public services and supporting businesses and innovation.
