Wilmington, Del. – InterDigital, an R&D company for mobile, video, and AI technologies, has won a Fierce Network Innovation Award for its innovative AI approach. Announced on December 19, the Fierce Network Innovation Awards are given annually to companies, solutions, and individuals who are able to change networks, engage customers, and deliver savings and innovation.
InterDigital’s AI-Empowered Receiver Design for 6G Wireless Communications impressed the jury in the AI category because it demonstrated a pioneering use of AI and machine learning to reshape the future of wireless communication.
Tested over-the-air with Keysight Technologies, Inc, this AI-empowered receiver architecture at InterDigital replaces three traditional signal processing functions at the receiver side with one AI/ML model trained to jointly perform channel equalization, estimation, and demodulation with improved robustness and performance.
This approach of joint learning optimizes functions to yield significant throughput improvement and substantial reduction in communication overhead as compared to traditional designs.
The novel approach maximizes throughput performance, increases robustness to hardware and radio impairments, streamlines receiver design, and cuts overhead, making it perfectly suited for 6G applications.
