Google Supercharges ‘Circle to Search’ With AI Advancements

Google is doubling down on its search feature through the New Circle to Search update by introducing two major updates, which will make discovering information more seamless than before.

Originally launched in early 2024 on select Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices, the feature rapidly became a favorite among Android lovers. Circle to Search allows users to search for anything on their screen with a simple gesture by simply just circling, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping.

AI Overviews: Smarter and More Contextual Google Search Results

The major upgrade expands AI Overviews to a wider range of visual search results, covering places, trending images, unique objects, and more. First introduced in the U.S. in May 2024 and rolled out globally in October, AI Overviews uses Google’s Gemini AI model to provide instant and quality insights.

But now, users can circle an artwork, a landmark, or a trending product and receive generative AI-powered snapshots of relevant information. This information also comes with web links for deeper exploration.

The upgradation of Circle to Search will eliminate the need for app-switching or manual queries while ensuring users receive multi-step reasoning-backed responses faster.

Instant Actions: Recognizing Numbers, Emails, and URLs

In another development, Circle to Search can now recognize and interact with numbers, email addresses, and URLs that prompt on the screen. Whether users come across a phone number, a website link, or an email address, they can take action with just a single tap. For instance, users can send an email, dial a call, or visit a webpage. Through such an approach, Google is pushing towards an AI-driven, smooth mobile experience.
