India-U.S. Leaders Unveil AI, Space, and Defense Initiatives for 2025

Washington, D.C. – New Initiatives Focused on AI, Semiconductor Supply Chains, and Space Exploration were launched by Trump and Modi following their confirmation of the resilient U.S.-India strategic partnership. The summit began to institutionalize technology cooperation between the two nations.

A major outcome of the visit was the initiation of the U.S.-India TRUST (“Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology”) program to promote joint cooperation and collaboration on defense, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and bioengineering. Both nations, within the framework of this initiative, committed to the rapid development of AI infrastructure in India, dismantling regulatory barriers, and securing technology partnerships.

The leaders announced INDUS Innovation, an academia-industry platform to facilitate research and investment in space, energy, and emerging technologies. Similar to the established INDUS-X defense partnership, it will catalyze U.S.-India cooperation in satellite development, space exploration, and advanced spaceflight technologies. The year 2025 will mark a watershed moment in U.S.-India space collaboration, with NASA and ISRO’s joint astronaut mission to the International Space Station and the early launch of the NISAR Earth observation project.

The two governments pledged to enhance supply chain resilience in the semiconductor and critical minerals sectors, nurturing public and private investments in AI chips, processors, and advanced materials. A Strategic Mineral Recovery scheme was floated to recover and process rare earth elements from heavy industries, thereby ensuring a steady supply for both countries.

The U.S. National Science Foundation and India’s Anusandhan National Research Foundation also formalized an agreement for joint research in the areas of machine learning, next-gen telecom, intelligent transportation, and biomanufacturing. The shifting of technology transfer and export controls was also mentioned by the leaders, which would address security concerns as well as avoid choke points in the supply chain.

The summit signified a giant leap in the U.S.-India relationship, underscoring their commitment to innovations, economic growth, and technological leadership in the 21st century.
