Perplexity AI has introduced a new “Deep Research” tool, which sets itself apart from its competitors by offering all users a limited number of free queries daily. With this launch, Perplexity also jumps into the race to compete with formidable players in the AI space like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

Perplexity’s Deep Research Jump into AI Race
The launch of Deep Research by Perplexity reflects changing dynamics and rapid development in the AI industry. OpenAI debuted its own version earlier this month, while Google’s Gemini introduced a comparable tool in December. Chinese AI generative model, DeepSeek’s entry has also forced others to accelerate their AI development.
Like its archrivals, Perplexity’s Deep Research tool scans and synthesizes information from hundreds of sources to generate reports on finance, marketing, technology, and other topics.
Users can access the Deep Research tool by visiting Perplexity.ai, selecting the feature from the drop-down menu in the chat box, and entering their query. The AI then analyzes sources by refining its research methodology and compiles an in-depth report within 2-4 minutes. Also, users can download these reports as PDF files.
In Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark to identify its AI reasoning capabilities, Perplexity’s Deep Research tool demonstrated great accuracy. It trails only OpenAI’s Deep Research, which scored 26.6%. Other AI models, including DeepSeek R1, Gemini, and Grok-2, scored too low at 8.6%, 7.2%, and 3.95, respectively.
The launch comes when the tech mogul, Elon Musk unveiled the demonstration of Grok 3, claiming it to be the world’s smartest AI.
