Bahrain – Ericsson and Beyon renew their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), rejuvenating the collaboration’s focus on the development of networks toward Net Zero goal in Bahrain, with the integration of AI-driven solutions.
The partnership has achieved impressive results in the implementation of AI-related innovations, such as Cell Sleep Mode and MIMO Sleep Mode that reduce energy consumption at pilot sites by 22%, as well as bringing a 30% reduction in energy consumption across Batelco’s network due to deploying Ericsson with its 5G Radio 6646, in combination with these AI capabilities.
Nicolas Blixell, Vice President and Head of Gulf Council Countries at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, says:
”The results of our collaboration with Beyon highlight the role of technologies in achieving sustainability goals. By leveraging our expertise and technologies, we have been able to deliver measurable energy savings and support Beyon in their journey towards Net Zero.”
This partnership also implements artificial intelligence alongside circular economy practices. For instance, the Ericsson Product Take-back Program recycles end-of-life equipment, upholding responsible e-waste management. Monthly knowledge-sharing sessions organized by global AI experts discuss various topics, such as climate action and sustainability in technology.
Shaikh Bader bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Beyon Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer, says: “Our partnership with Ericsson demonstrates the substantial progress that can be made through focused sustainability initiatives. The outcomes reflect our commitment to energy efficiency and our goal to reduce our environmental footprint through innovative technologies and circular economy practices. Ultimately these efforts fall in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision to achieve its sustainable development goals of 2030.”
This new MoU ultimately confirms Ericsson and Beyon’s commitment to employing AI in energy efficiency in line with Bahrain’s environmental goals and paving the way for the future of sustainable telecom networks.
