New Delhi – Artificial intelligence will redefine consumer rights in India, with the National Consumer Day 2024, to be held tomorrow, focusing on using technology to empower and protect consumers. Unveiling a series of AI-enabled tools, including the National Consumer Helpline 2.0, an enhanced suite of apps under ‘Jago Grahak Jago’, all designed to identify deceptive behaviour in e-commerce and enhance consumer safety, Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the event.
Thirteen of the most outstanding e-commerce platforms, namely, Zomato, Reliance Retail, and Tata Sons, have committed themselves to adopting practices with AI enhancement towards ensuring product safety.
The aforementioned ‘Jagriti App’ and its dashboard will soon demonstrate the open-ended possibilities of AI, as it will enable real-time interaction by a consumer by flagging unsafe URLs as well as identifying manipulative practices that are geared toward exploiting buyers. Moreover, the ‘e-Mapp’ portal with AI will demystify the legal metrology services, so that compliance processes are unified.
It will also discuss the introduction of new SMART standards intended to make regulatory documents machine-readable and interactive so that they can be used by an automated system as well as a human user.
Through these upcoming advancements, it has become possible for India to be globally ahead in the advocacy of AI-based consumerism. Tomorrow’s event will carry much weight in advancing a secure and equitable digital marketplace for millions of Indian consumers while emphasizing how technology could transform the safety of consumers’ rights.
