While most AI firms have already accelerated their artificial intelligence development, the latest report suggests that Apple’s AI-based Siri overhaul may take longer than expected. Full capabilities are unlikely before iOS 20’s release in 2027.
The report says that while Apple is rushing to introduce AI-powered Siri features as early as May, It may fail to meet expectations demonstrated at WWDC 2024.
Apple’s AI-Powered Siri: A Long Road to Full Integration
At present, Apple’s AI development faces challenges, with internal data suggesting “extremely low” real-world adoption of Apple Intelligence features. The upcoming Siri version will reportedly operate with two separate “brains”: one for handling traditional functions and another for managing AI-related tasks.
However, this dual-system approach may lead to performance issues until Apple consolidates it into a unified architecture, which is expected in iOS 19. While it was planned to roll out in 2026, this integration may now be delayed until 2027.
Internally known as “LLM Siri”, the upcoming AI-enhanced assistant strives to offer more conversational interactions and deeper app integration. However, iOS 19 is not expected to come with major AI advancements, as Apple is focusing more on features that it announced last year.
To boost Siri’s AI advancement, Apple has reassigned veteran software executive Kim Vorrah to the AI and Machine learning division. On the flip side, delays and errors in software development could put Apple’s SVP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, John Giannandrea, under scrutiny.
