Apple is expanding into new horizons in the AI domain by incorporating very advanced AI elements into the latest iOS 18 software and the newest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro versions. To enhance user satisfaction through AI, Apple has recently started a dialogue with Meta about integrating the new generative AI into their systems.
According to the Wall Street Journal, there have been discussions regarding the possible incorporation of Meta’s AI model, which is currently being used across Meta platforms, into Apple Intelligence. This system was recently unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). If this were to happen, it could have the potential to significantly improve and diversify Apple’s AI resources by integrating external AI solutions with their own.
Apple has been keen on partnering with AI firms, with some of the leading ones it had partnered with earlier being Open AI, Google, and Anthropic. Thus, with the integration of OpenAI’s GPT-4 as its first official AI partner, Apple secures its place in the global AI market. At the WWDC event, Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, highlighted that they purposely began with OpenAI to aim for the best user experience. He also went further to explain that ChatGPT is currently the best solution for their users.
The fact that other AI developers, such as Meta, are keen to collaborate with Apple is a testament to the firm’s influence in the industry. This could potentially reiterate the success of its App Store. These collaborations can pave the way for a diversified AI environment where Apple clients can choose from various outside AI models to supplement their experience using Apple’s AI deployment.
Meta planned and announced its new advanced large language model, Llama 2, in July last year and recently introduced Llama 3 in April this year. These advanced models have received tremendous acclaim from the technology sector. Working with Apple might help Meta to improve its position in the rather saturated market of artificial intelligence. However, per the latest information reported by the Wall Street Journal, the discussions are taking place, but it cannot be said with certainty that they will culminate in the signing of a deal by the two companies.
This advancement is considered one of the steps in Apple’s grand strategy to integrate deep AI capabilities into the devices to not only increase the interest of the consumers but also enhance the effectiveness of these devices. If the negotiations with Meta and other possible partnerships go well, it could set a new standard for utilizing AI in consumer electronics and how people engage with their devices.
