LAS VEGAS, December 4, 2024 – Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. has recently unveiled the next generation of Amazon SageMaker at AWS re: Invent. SageMaker is a fully integrated end-to-end combination of data lakes, machine learning, analytics, and generative AI.
The new Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio has brought together all these tools in one environment, which allows organizations to connect seamlessly to create and execute SQL queries, train machine learning models, and deploy AI applications. When combined with other offerings like Amazon Q Developer and the SageMaker Lakehouse, the unified platform is applicable for petabyte-scale data exploration and analysis via SQL. It also has built-in governance and is thus a one-stop shop for modern enterprises.
“We are seeing a convergence of analytics and AI, with customers using data in increasingly interconnected ways—from historical analytics to ML model training and generative AI applications,” said Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of Data and AI at AWS.
“To support these workloads, many customers already use combinations of our purpose-built analytics and ML tools, such as Amazon SageMaker—the de facto standard for working with data and building ML models—Amazon EMR, Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3 data lakes, and AWS Glue. The next generation of SageMaker brings together these capabilities—along with some exciting new features—to give customers all the tools they need for data processing, SQL analytics, ML model development and training, and generative AI, directly within SageMaker.”
Key features of the platform include:
- Unified Studio – It offers a unifying studio for users that brings tools together from sources like Amazon Bedrock, Redshift, EMR, and others.
- SageMaker Lakehouse – Brings down data silos by unifying lakes, warehouses, and third-party data with an Apache Iceberg standard.
- Zero-ETL Integrations – Combine with other third-party SaaS data sources and end the complexity of pipelines.
- Governance and Compliance – Enforces responsible AI usage and security through the SageMaker Catalog.
Businesses like NatWest Group and Roche expect significant productivity gains – NatWest expects its analytics integration time to be reduced by half, while Roche takes data processing time down by 40%.
AWS remains at the forefront of cloud computing, providing tools to enable organizations to use data and AI for innovation.
