- Cybersecurity leader Bitdefender announces its Proactive Hardening and Attack Surface Reduction technology, or PHASR for short, aimed at dynamically aligning cybersecurity strategies with changing user behaviors. The technology aims to improve security posture, harden enterprise environments and reduce security incidents.
- Bitdefender’s GravityZone PHASR solution offers businesses tailored security policies based on individual and group behavior, helping IT security teams align their broader user privileges strategies based on role-based behaviors. This is expected to reduce potential vulnerabilities and give IT teams more visibility into security incidents.
Bitdefender, a popular name in the cybersecurity industry, announced its new technology, GravityZone Proactive Hardening and Attack Surface Reduction (PHASR), aimed at transforming how enterprise security is managed across diverse business environments. The technology is the first of its kind, helping IT teams struggling against the rise in cybersecurity incidents secure their business.
The cybersecurity industry currently faces various challenges, with their traditional security models and practices no longer adequate. Experts believe that an over-reliance on reactive detection, instead of a proactive one, and a uniform security model are increasing risks. This is where PHASR takes a new approach by enabling ITSec teams to shift their focus on preventing attacks rather than reacting to them.
To achieve this, Bitdefender’s GravityZone PHASR solution leverages machine learning and proprietary AI algorithms to analyze user behavior, across application use and resource privileges. Then users are grouped into clusters based on similarity of behavior, allowing for more targeted and dynamic security measures. This helps security teams in anticipating and address potential risks before they cause damage. It also signals an emerging approach of evolving privileges as user roles change, ensuring security measures always remain aligned with business objectives and security considerations.
According to technology major IBM, businesses can take up to 197 days or roughly 6 months to identify a breach, and another 2 months to contain it, on average. Thanks to this new technology, businesses can automatically identify and eliminate security gaps before they are exploited, customize their security controls based on employee behavior, industry, business needs and geography, as well as optimize the attack surface without impacting day-to-day operations.
Andrei Florescu, president and general manager at Bitdefender Business Solutions Group, called the new solution a game-changer. He highlighted the need for this innovative security solution by saying, “The attack surface continues to expand making it extremely challenging for security teams to keep pace with fluctuating levels of risk in their organization stemming from employees, customers, third-party partners and various systems.” Yet, Bitdefender’s PHASR will position IT security teams to be better equipped to identify and respond to cybersecurity issues.

To Sum-up: Bitdefender’s launch of GravityZone PHASR represents a much-needed evolution in business cybersecurity. It aligns with the industry’s shift towards proactive defense strategies, rather than reactive ones that do not stand up to modern security risks. However, organizations adopting GravityZone PHASR will be able to deploy a user behavior-based, proactive security model that has the potential to redefine incident management and risk mitigation in cybsersecurity.
