China is becoming more strategic since it is stepping up to become one of the leading global powers in artificial intelligence (AI). The country has recently established a specialized committee that will be responsible for determining standards of AI. This decision is in tune with the broader Chinese strategic vision that aims at making the country the world’s hub of AI technology innovation and governance.
As per the official communication by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a new committee will be formed for the creation of AI standards. This is an important committee as it aims at evaluating and overseeing the process of developing standards regarding the proper utilization of Artificial Intelligence. The government’s formation of this committee is a testament to this fact since AI has become a significant aspect of numerous sectors including healthcare, education, manufacturing, and public service provision and adopting standardized measures is paramount towards achieving proper, secure, and ethical deployment of AI systems.
One of the most recent developments is the creation of a technical committee that’s aimed at developing and overseeing standards in artificial intelligence. All these standards are planned in a way to promote advancement while at the same time ensuring harmonious compatibility, adequate protection, and a strictly ethical framework. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the committee will also work on drafting standards in relation to the use of AI to achieve fair and unintended bias.
