Ericsson and SoftBank Expand AI-RAN Partnership to Enhance Network Performance

Ericsson and SoftBank Strengthen AI-RAN Collaboration for Enhanced Network Efficiency

Tokyo, Japan, October 7, 2024 – Ericsson together with SoftBank Corp. have confirmed the enhancement of their cooperation with the integration and deployment of AI-based technologies into SoftBank’s Radio Access Network (RAN).

This partnership was established to improve network efficiency and performance focusing on the realistic use of artificial intelligence for the increasing data demand and operations.

The two companies are focusing on such integration in an AI-RAN environment where the technology applies and optimizes traffic data to enhance the efficiency of the network.

This action, as stated by Ericsson, will enhance the network capability and particularly, it will be useful in urbanized settings.

In a joint statement, Ericsson’s Head of Networks, Per Narvinger, expressed optimism about the partnership:

“By integrating AI into RAN, we are making networks smarter and more efficient, ensuring they meet the growing demands of users.”

SoftBank’s Chief Technology Officer, Ryuji Wakikawa, added:

“This collaboration with Ericsson is a crucial step towards building next-generation networks that are faster, more reliable, and more efficient.”

Coinciding with the ever-increasing adoption of 5G services, the necessity for advanced and cost-effective as well as efficient networking systems has become a requirement.

This is the area where both companies seem to be riding on the wave of the changes in technology and developments are expected as the integration continues.

There has been no indication as to when the full implementation has been anticipated, but these documented trends may be viewed as strategic in nature to remain competitive in the ever-changing telecommunications sector.
