Hanoi, Vietnam – September 30, 2023 – Viettel, the largest telecommunications company in Vietnam, disclosed that it has entrusted a major contract on the extension of the 5G network to Ericsson. The deal will further broaden their age-long teamwork to enhance the country’s 5G capacity and accelerate the pace of digital changes within that market.
Analysts say this agreement comes at the right time as Vietnam seeks to become a 5G technology leader in the Southeast Asian region.
“This year marks a significant milestone year for Vietnam with the commercial deployment of 5G. 5G will deliver superior user experience and enable new enterprise features that will unleash the capabilities of Industry 4.0 and enable the digital transformation of Vietnam.”
Said Tao Duc Thang, President and CEO, of Viettel.More importantly, the action is in line with Vietnam’s master plan to develop the economy via increased digitalization.
Subclass of ICT, Communication networks, equipment, and technologies promised by Ericson will contribute to comprehensively building a 5G mobile network thus improving Viettel’s level of coverage, speed of data transfer, and number of connected devices.

In the contract, Viettel plans to roll out a network that offers enriched 5G services for urban and rural users. This partnership, emphasizes the importance of advanced technology deployed networks for influencing innovations and growth of the economies.
More specifics regarding the deployment schedule and the financial aspects of the agreement have not been revealed. Nonetheless, Ericsson and Viettel both assured that further updates on the project will come as it develops.
