Eviden Achieves Record Energy Efficiency in Global Supercomputing Rankings

November 19, 2024 – Paris, France-An Atos subsidiary called Eviden has made outstanding progress as its two supercomputers were ranked first and second for energy efficiency in the famous Green500 list.

The systems built at the Advanced Computing facility of Eviden based in Angers pave the way for a new standard in the integration of sustainable AI and high-performance computing (HPC).

The first supercomputer, Helios was rated 65.4 gigaflops per watt which is unprecedented. Another machine in the family, TerraNova, was rated at 63.8 gigaflops per watt.

These numbers/image metrics show the increasing dichotomy between sustainability and computational power in AI and the HPC domains. Eviden Chief Technology Officer Philippe Duluc noted,

“This is because we deliver innovation focused on energy efficiency without impacting the effectiveness balance in the meantime.”

In the achievement, the growing importance of sustainable energy hasn’t been ignored in the context of enhancing the existing computing models.

They are of the opinion that AI systems that are energy-efficient will be the way forward in advancing AI research while ensuring that environmental issues are minimized.

“The Green500 rankings have illustrated the newest boundaries of what creative design and manufacturing has to offer for sustainability within computing,”

Said HPC Insights Lead Analyst Jack Turner.

Eviden can definitely boast about its achievements when the era of AI comes under close fire due to its energy requirements. These technologies, in fact, could lead to greener models of data processing and AI training in the future.

As the computing world moves forward, there is a demand for scalable and effective solutions that Eviden’s advancements offer.

More information about energy-efficient computing development plans at Eviden will be disclosed at the Supercomputing Conference this month.
