In the latest announcement, Google Cloud has introduced the Automotive AI agent, an advanced generative AI solution specifically designed to transform driving experience. Mercedes-Benz is among the first automakers to implement this cutting-edge technology.
Built on Google’s Gemini large language model and deployed via Vertex AI, this new AI agent is fabricated to empower automakers with the ability to create deeply personalized and intuitive in-car assistants that surpass the capabilities of traditional vehicle voice control systems.
The development will allow the assistant to engage in natural, human-like conversations and handle a variety of queries seamlessly. For example, drivers can ask, “Is there an Italian restaurant nearby?” and follow-up questions like, “Does the restaurant have good reviews?” or “What is the most popular dish there?
The AI’s contextual understanding and conversational memory ensure that it can manage complex, multi-turn dialogues without losing track of the conversation’s flow.
Google Cloud to Transform Automotive Industry
Mercedes-Benz plans to integrate the Automotive AI Agent into its MBUX Virtual Assistant, which will debut in the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA model later this year.
The new MBUX System will leverage Google Maps to provide drivers and passengers with real-time, accurate information on points of interest, traffic updates, and more. The AI-driven virtual assistant will offer a highly interactive experience, which makes in-car interactions smoother and more efficient.
One of the standout features of the Automotive AI Agents is its ability to recall past conversations. This conversational memory function allows drivers to pause their interactions with the assistant and resume them at any time, picking up right where they left off.
