Google Introduces AI-Based Vacation Planning Tools

As Summer vacation nears, Google has announced the launch of a suite of AI-based tools to enhance trip planning across Search, Maps, and its Gemini chatbot.

The new features will keep Google at the prime destination for travel search amid the rise in AI-based itinerary suggestions through OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

A major update is the expansion of Google Search’s AI Overviews. It can generate custom itineraries for users. By simply searching queries like “create an itinerary for Costa Rica with a focus on nature,” travelers can receive special trip recommendations. Complete with images, reviews, and an interactive map.

These itineraries can be exported to Google Docs, Gmail, or saved as a custom list in Google Maps, which enhances planning. Google is also making Gems, a feature within its Gemini chatbot, free for all users. It allows users to create personalized AI trip plans along with suggestions about destinations, itinerary details, packing lists, and so on

Google’s hotel price tracking tool is another big upgrade, though; this feature works similarly to its existing flight price alerts, where Users can check hotel rates for specific dates and locations. Users can also apply filters such as star ratings.

Google Maps is introducing a new way to convert travel screenshots into actionable plans. By granting Maps access to photos, users can automatically identify and save places of interest. Initially launching on iOS in the U.S, Android support will follow soon.
