NRF Invests $32M in AI Startup Harrison.ai to Improve Medical Diagnostics

Sydney – The Australian Government’s National Reconstruction Fund (NRF) has made an investment of $32 million in Harrison.ai, supporting its AI-based diagnosis tools for improving disease detection and diagnosis. The capital will enable the Sydney company to pursue expansion globally while building upon its capabilities in radiology and pathology.

Harrison.ai uses AI to examine CT scans and X-rays and give physicians a second pair of eyes for fast and accurate diagnosis. Deployed in well over 1,000 healthcare facilities around the world, it assists in diagnosing over 6 million patients every year. The investment is a good fit with the government’s approach toward medical science and critical technologies, which aims to keep Australia at the forefront of advances in AI-driven healthcare.

Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic emphasized the impact of AI on medical diagnostics, stating, “Quicker diagnoses lead to earlier treatment and more lives saved, Harrison.ai is a breakthrough technology that will do exactly that. Using Al will make radiology more precise and will increase the quality of life for Australians and people the world over. This is an Australian success story that will continue to operate in Australia thanks to the NRF’s investment, growing our medical and Al capabilities.” He highlighted the importance of AI in improving radiology precision and enhancing patient care.

NRFC Chair Martijn Wilder AM pointed out the global shortage of radiologists and pathologists, noting, “There is currently a severe global shortage of radiologists and pathologists resulting in significant diagnostic delays that can have life-threatening consequences for patients. Harrison.ai’s technology provides medical professionals with a powerful tool to detect and diagnose medical conditions quickly and accurately, alleviating pain and saving lives.”

Harrison.ai Co-founder and CEO Dr. Aengus Tran reiterated the company’s commitment to global leadership in AI-driven healthcare, stating, “We believe Australia has the potential to lead in clinical Al globally. This investment empowers Harrison.ai to further our commitment to improving patient outcomes and accelerate the adoption of our market-leading solutions in Australia and internationally.”

The announcement coincides with Minister Husic’s roundtable discussions on AI policy with business leaders and unions. The NRF has dedicated $1 billion toward critical technologies and $1.5 billion for medical manufacturing, further affirming Australia’s intention for leadership in AI-driven healthcare solutions.
