IBM’s 'AI in Action' Report Uncovers AI Investment and Data Management Trends

November 8, 2024, New York, NY – IBMs announcement today includes its AI in Action report. The report focuses on the ways in which the best “AI Leader” companies are able to outperform all others. Harris Poll created this report with the help of a survey conducted in 2000 companies across the world where 15% that completed the survey identified themselves as AI Leaders reaping better benefits from such an investment than the rest, called “Learners.”

The report identifies four major factors that contribute to the success of AI, starting with aggressive investment: 71% of AI Leaders say that they have chosen to accelerate the pace of investment in AI, while only 19% of Learners do the same. AI Leaders are also optimistic about data management, as 61% of them believe so while 11% of Learners do the same.

“Of the organizations that were considered AI Leaders, two-thirds reported that AI has already driven 25% or greater improvement in their revenue growth rate,” said Shobhit Varshney, VP & Sr. Partner, Americas AI Leader, IBM Consulting. “We dove into the data to uncover how these AI Leaders were implementing AI within their businesses that could help others learn from their success.”

Another factor that defines AI Leaders is executive alignment. 72% report working with the entire C-Suite to achieve AI objectives, as opposed to only 36% among Learners. Furthermore, these leaders are deeply involved in business development initiatives for AI in other areas including customer experience, IT automation, virtual assistant technology, and cybersecurity, which is critical to their high level of maturity with the technology.

The report highlights customization as essential to AI success, 72% of AI Leaders claim they deploy APIs to customize AI solutions in two thirds of the cases reporting revenue improvement, this percentage being drastically higher than that of Learners at 28%. This enables the AI Leaders to spur significant revenue growth, as two-thirds of them indicate improvement in revenues exceeding 25%.
