JetBrains Launches Junie, an AI Assistant for Developers

JetBrains Launches Junie, an AI Assistant for Developers

JetBrains has launched Junie, an AI-based coding agent, across all its integrated development environments (IDEs). It is designed to improve workflows and elevate code quality.

Junie is now available to users of IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, PyCharm Professional, WebStorm, and GoLand, with support for PhpStorm, RustRover, and RubyMine on the horizon.

JetBrains’ Smart AI Agent to Boost Coding Efficiency

It was developed in partnership with leading AI labs Anthropic and OpenAI. Junie uses advanced language models to handle tasks, such as Cluade and GPT.

The agent is used directly within the coding environment. It helps developers to create a “human-in-the-loop” experience that balances automation.

More than a simple assistant, Junie is expected to bring a big shift in the software development space, where AI not only accelerates productivity but also boosts higher standards in code quality.

In the official announcement, JetBrains stated that developers will also receive smarter suggestions. It means they will be able to get more accurate context handling and a reduced cognitive load.

Alongside Junie’s debut, JetBrains also introduced the latest version of its AI Assistant. The update comes with greater compatibility with powerful new models, including Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro.

For teams concerned about privacy, improved integration with local models ensures data stays in-house without compromising functionality.
