Seoul, November 8, 2024 – LG Electronics finished the 2024 Global IT Challenge (GITC) for Youth with Disabilities in Manila held from November 3 through November 8. The competition this year attracted 104 contestants from 16 countries, who demonstrated abilities in various digital challenges involving eTool – presentation and spreadsheet, eLifeMap – navigation, and eCreative – programming. The latest edition of GITC included a test on generative AI that considered recent trends in the IT sector.
The event participants showed hard work and creativity in six challenges, all based on the idea of fostering digital empowerment. The 2024 GITC champion, Zulzahirah Binti Mohd Anwar from Malaysia, expressed pride in competing and building connections globally.
“GITC has been a stepping stone for nearly 5,000 young adults with disabilities, empowering them to overcome barriers and become competitive IT talent,” said Yoon Dae-sik, LG’s Senior VP of External Relations, highlighting LG’s commitment to fostering skills and self-confidence in IT for youth with disabilities. “We remain dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities as they refine their skills and build self-confidence, helping them realize their dreams in the IT field.”
Since its inception in 2011, GITC has helped almost 5,000 young people from 40 countries pursue an IT career. In line with LG Corp.’s ‘Better Life for All’ vision, the initiative strives to improve the reach of its products, for example, by including braille stickers and sign language services. LG’s GITC also promotes inclusion by providing young people with disabilities with the necessary resources to succeed in a tech-powered society.
