LITEON and SUTD Unite to Boost 5G Sustainability Through AI

November 11, 2024, Singapore – A Research Collaboration Agreement has been signed between the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and LITEON Technology (2301) furthering research to enhance energy-efficient applications for the Communication Industry Technology 5G networks.

The agreement is structured in such a way that it combines AI-powered analytics and big data with LITEON’s telecommunications network technologies to manage energy consumption on 5G networks sustainably.

The deployment of the O-RAN RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platform has also achieved up to twenty percent energy reduction in wireless access networks, dramatically lowering the running costs of mobile network operators.

Richard Chiang, who is the Smart Life Applications division’s General Manager, was even more emphatic during this development:

“We are proud to work with SUTD to provide energy-saving solutions for 5G. We are still concentrating on high-performance, efficient networks which propel the 5G ecosystem with a lesser environmental footprint.”

In agreement with these statements, the Director of the Future Communications R&D Program at SUTD, Professor Tony Quek, also pointed out,

“This collaboration combines our research capacities with LITEON’s know-how in the industry and enables us to achieve a more environmentally friendly and intelligent 5G and beyond.”

Also, the AI-driven system facilitates energy-efficient operations of 5G networks, especially in dense deployments of small cell base stations, optimizing network resilience and resource allocation.

In addition, LITEON’s focus on developing networking devices as well as software and engaging further partnerships within the ecosystem showcase its position towards promoting eco-friendly technology reaching for the advancement of 5G and 6G.

The objective of this collaboration is to establish a new benchmark in energy-efficient telecommunications practices and enhance the resilience and health of the global network.
