SANTA CLARA, Calif. – October 14, 2024 – 2024 OCP Global Summit – The collaboration between Marvell Technology, Inc. and Meta, has led to the development of a particular 5nm Ethernet Network Interface Controller named FBNIC.
Making its debut at the 2024 OCP Global Summit, held in Santa Clara, California this product was particularly intended to improve the efficiency of data centers in terms of performance and operations.
“The future of large-scale, data center computing will increasingly revolve around optimizing semiconductors and other components for specific applications and cloud infrastructure architectures,”
said Raghib Hussain, President of Products and Technologies at Marvell.
The FBNIC is an amalgamation of Marvell’s next-generation network controller, and a custom combined board, ASIC, firmware, and software made by the company together with Meta.
It comprises a variety of ethernet network interfaces including 4x100Ge and 2x25Ge in order to make the system more effective and tackle network and server problems with minimal resolution time.
Marvell intends to upload the FBNIC board layout for the FBNIC to OCP in order to avoid the dissipation of the previously described advantage through the industry.
“It’s been exciting to partner with Meta on developing their custom FBNIC,”
added Hussain. The FBNIC is compliant with OCP NIC 3.0, Version 1.2.0 Design Specification, and will facilitate a more streamlined data center operation.
The emergence of the FBNIC shows that the industry is implementing more concepts for personalized solutions that assist operations. As the demands for cloud infrastructure keep changing, there is a growing demand for special parts.
This partnership is a big leap in the direction of developing better data center solutions that are tailored to specific operational needs.
