Microsoft and Pearson Join Forces to Advance AI Education and Workforce Skilling

LONDON and REDMOND, Wash. – Microsoft Corp. and Pearson have announced a multiyear strategic collaboration to transform learning and workforce skills in the AI era. Under this partnership, the two companies will focus on providing learners, workers, and employers with AI-powered tools and personalized resources to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven economy.

The collaboration combines the leadership of Microsoft in AI and cloud computing with Pearson’s leadership in learning, assessment, and certification services. The initiative would scale AI skilling globally; introduce new AI credentials; and expand workforce tools to prepare workers for technology-driven careers. Pearson will leverage the cloud computing and AI infrastructure provided by Microsoft Azure to enhance AI-enabled learning services, providing a personalized experience to millions around the globe. New AI-related credentials and certifications will fill gaps in skills areas, such as tools to help with the English language and technical skills for professionals.

Microsoft will continue its partnership with Pearson VUE, reaching millions more to obtain critical Microsoft technology certifications through 2029. In addition, Pearson will roll out Microsoft 365 Copilot to its global workforce to increase operational efficiency and innovation.

Pearson’s CEO Omar Abbosh, said, “Partnering with Microsoft means we can reach more learners than ever before. By blending Microsoft’s AI leadership and Pearson’s trusted enterprise skilling and learning services, we can bring enterprise learners precisely what they need to forge ahead in their careers and help them realize the life they imagine. This new chapter with Microsoft is yet another way we are building on our commitment to expand AI in our products and sharpen our focus on the enterprise market.”

Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Microsoft, said, “As AI investments increase, the demand for training and support to enable effective and responsible use of AI has never been greater. We are thrilled to partner with Pearson to help global enterprises develop learning experiences that empower employees with the AI skills needed to help advance their careers and achieve more.”

This partnership makes both companies build on their existing commitments to AI skilling. In 2024, Microsoft and its partners trained 23 million individuals in digital skills, while Pearson announced the Generative AI Foundations certification. Together, these organizations aim to reshape the landscape of workforce development and empower individuals around the world to navigate this revolution of AI.
