Mistral AI is presenting Saba, which is a 24-billion-parameter AI model with the goal of trying to better the processes of language understanding in the Middle East and South Asia. The model is designed to be trained on different linguistic features specific to the region so that it can have a better performance than most large AI models that are generic.
Saba has been built on highly curated data sets spanning the Middle East and South Asia, making it highly incisive in understanding Arabic and the South Asian languages, with special regard to Tamil. As opposed to larger models, Saba stands out because of its small design with optimum speed and can provide responses at a speed greater than 150 tokens per second on single GPU setups.
The model can be used via an API and with local deployment, ensuring that enterprises can secure and control their AI applications. This flexibility in deployment is of interest to businesses that have strict governance policies concerning data.
Applications of Saba cut across various industries such as conversational AI, domain expertise, or cultural content creation. It powers virtual assistants providing Arabic real-time interactions and AI systems focused on financial markets, healthcare, and energy.
Mistral AI’s development took place in close collaboration with their strategic customers in the region and the specific use cases determined by them. Mistral Saba is fast growing into a powerful solution, deployable locally while observing and understanding the nuances in the Middle East, stated the company.
This is part of the step Mistral AI is taking to strengthen its entry into the direction of specialized AI models addressing different hemispheres. Besides, the company also offers custom model training for enterprises seeking proprietary AI solutions. Interested businesses can access Mistral Saba via API and engage with Mistral AI on custom AI training.
