The feud between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and tech mogul Elon Musk escalated after OpenAI countersued Musk for alleged repeated harassment and attempts to slow down the company’s operations.
The legal lawsuit filed on Wednesday aims to block Musk from taking any further “unlawful and unfair action.”
Elon’s nonstop actions against us are just bad-faith tactics to slow down OpenAI and seize control of the leading AI innovations for his personal benefit. Today, we counter-sued to stop him.

OpenAI Counters Elon Musk’s Legal Offensive With Harassment Allegations
The countersuit comes after Elon Musk’s own lawsuit earlier this year, in which he accused OpenAI of abandoning its founding mission to serve humanity.
Sam Altman allegedly stated that Elon Musk has used his vast platform and legal machinery to undermine the AI firm he helped launch in 2015 but later he walked away.
In a court filing, OpenAI’s legal team states, “Through press attacks, malicious campaigns broadcast to Musk’s more than 200 million followers on the social media platform he controls, a pretextual demand for corporate records, harassing legal claims and a sham bid for OpenAI’s assets, Musk has tried every tool available to harm OpenAI.”
The court filing also mentioned the insincere $94.7 billion takeover bid, which Musk offered to Sam Altman earlier this year.
Musk has long criticized OpenAI’s shift towards a for-profit structure, as OpenAI defends this move, saying it is necessary to secure a $40 billion funding round. Musk’s legal team responded by insisting the takeover offer was serious and unfairly dismissed.
OpenAI refuted these claims, saying, “He’s been spreading false information about us. We’re actually getting ready to build the best-equipped nonprofit the world has ever seen – we’re not converting it away.”
