The University of Adelaide has further strengthened its position in the sphere of artificial intelligence by establishing the Responsible AI Research Centre (RAIR) in collaboration with the CSIRO. This pioneering project, located in the Lot Fourteen innovation hub in Adelaide, was supported by a $5 million grant from the South Australian Government. The granted funding reflects the state’s focus on AI development for the betterment of society without compromising the social impact it brings.
The Responsible AI Research Centre seems to be a promising initiative targeted at emerging problems in a rapidly developing area of artificial intelligence. Another area where RAIR is currently focusing is easily identifying cause and effect. The majority of today’s AI systems work on pattern and correlation, but they don’t have course causal reasoning. RAIR’s researchers continuously try to inculcate more causality in actual AI systems, enhancing their capability to make sensitive decisions.
The formation of RAIR further strengthens the Australian Institute for Machine Learning’s strategic partnerships following its success in bringing together the Commonwealth Bank and Industrial AI. These collaborations have helped the institute attract more than $33 million in research funding to advance AI technology.
