Seoul, October 11, 2024 – Samsung Electronics announced new improvements in the protection of AI home appliances as part of the marketing of the Knox Matrix platform.
Once confined to gadgets like smartphones and TVs, Knox Matrix will now include the protection of AI-based home appliances such as refrigerators and laundry machines.
The purpose of the upgrade is to meet the rising demand for the security of the devices by interlinking all the devices within the network so that each device is capable of watching over the others for possible attacks.
This next level of security will also include biometric authentication, set to be rolled out in 2025. Users will be able to log into their appliances using fingerprints or facial recognition, eliminating the need for passwords and significantly reducing the risk of credential leaks.
This move reflects Samsung’s commitment to offering a seamless yet secure experience for users navigating increasingly complex smart home ecosystems.
“As the connected ecosystem of AI home appliances expands, the importance of security is growing exponentially,”
Said Miyoung Yoo, EVP and Head of the Software Development Team at Samsung Electronics.
“We’re committed to building a secure environment where users can confidently rely on AI home appliances.”
Knox Matrix makes use of private blockchain technology to allow participating devices to interact with each other to identify vulnerabilities. Apart from biometric logon, Samsung is making plans to introduce other security measures such as encryption and hardware security that would bolster the AI ecosystem of the company.
These updates illustrate that Samsung is still trying to address that need and to gain the trust of customers with the increasing digitalization of homes. We expect a lot more features and security enhancements to be announced in the coming months.
