Seoul – Samsung Electronics, the largest electronics company in the world, announced that it is acquiring an additional 35% stake in Rainbow Robotics to emerge as a dominant player in the AI-supported humanoid robotics development domain. The joint efforts of Samsung’s advanced AI and software technology and an extensive portfolio of experience from Rainbow Robotics will accelerate the creation of intelligent humanoid robots.
Rainbow Robotics, the company known for its phenomenal two-legged walking robot “Hubo,” will become a part of Samsung’s subsidiary. The latest developments in AI algorithms will be used to improve robot manufacturing and logistics capabilities, developing applications for collaborative and autonomous robots. These will be able to analyze and adjust accordingly to complex environmental dynamics.
The company also set up a Future Robotics Office that will focus on next-generation AI robotics. Its advisor, Dr. Jun-Ho Oh, is a founding member of Rainbow Robotics and an honorary professor at KAIST. His expertise will help transform these AI-enabled features into robots that will satisfy the needs of a global marketplace and create a platform for new ideas and inspiration.
To propel technological growth in AI-powered robotics, strategies, and market assessments, a new synergy council will be created. This will allow Rainbow Robotics to access international markets through Samsung’s diverse sales networks, making the company yet more positioned at the forefront of AI and robotics innovations.
