SAP Launches Business Data Cloud with Databricks to Power AI-Driven Innovation

New York – In the wake of the launch of the SAP Business Data Cloud, an innovative data platform designed for unifying SAP and third-party data across enterprises, comes an offering that has been co-developed with Databricks to enable business functions to leverage AI-powered analytics, machine learning, and data-driven insights as never before.

“SAP Business Data Cloud unleashes the full value of enterprise data for Business AI,” said SAP CEO Christian Klein. “It combines SAP’s unique expertise in mission-critical, end-to-end processes and semantically rich data with Databricks’ world-class data engineering capabilities to create a ground-breaking solution that helps organizations do more with their data than ever before.”

The SAP Business Data Cloud forms the basis for trusted data from advanced AI and data engineering capabilities of Databricks for businesses. Such a foundation allows organizations to harmonize structured and unstructured data from finance, supply chains, HR, etc., leverage AI models to analyze, predict, and optimize business operation decisions, and cut data extraction costs by preserving original business semantics.

“Every company on the planet wants to get more value out of their data and greater returns on their AI investments,” said Ali Ghodsi, Co-founder and CEO of Databricks. “By joining forces with SAP, we’re helping organizations bring together all their data — regardless of format or where it lives — to govern, analyze and build domain-specific AI applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform.”

The support for the data product economy is one key innovation of the SAP Business Data Cloud; this business model allows companies to obtain SAP data products that were built beforehand with little to no extraction overhead. The fully managed data assets are expected to include some of the key business areas, including finance, where real-time general ledger and cost center data become instantly accessible, supply chain management, with integrations to SAP S/4HANA and SAP Ariba, and HR and talent analytics, using SAP SuccessFactors. This innovation allows real-time AI-enhanced decision-making. For example, a CFO can quickly analyze analyses of inflation impacts by joining external economic indicators with internal financial data products to get a more holistic view on the business.

SAP Business Data Cloud also advances AI agent capabilities with Joule, SAP’s generative AI copilot. The platform powers Joule agents to automate and augment finance, sales, and customer service workflows. SAP introduced out-of-the-box AI agents for its SAP Business Suite, among which are finance agents that enable the automation of claims processing and enhancement of cash flow management, as well as sales agents that accelerate dispute resolution and customer inquiries. The company also announced the Agent Builder, allowing organizations to adapt SAP AI agents for particular use cases and benefit from SAP’s business process expertise.

“SAP Business Data Cloud will help us unlock the value of our data and drive innovation across our business,” said Markus Hartmann, Corporate Vice President and Head of Business Technology and regions Europe, APAC and IMEA, at Henkel, a multinational chemical and consumer goods company. “Its semantically rich data products and deep Databricks integration will enhance our existing data products and empower us to model scenarios and leverage AI insights, building a sustainable future for our data ecosystems.”
