Singapore – Singtel, in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., has successfully completed the world’s first telco trial of an AI-enabled Home WiFi Gateway. As part of the Qualcomm® Networking AI Suite on the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ Wi-Fi 7 platform, the AI-powered Smart Traffic Classifier optimizes traffic prioritization, with reduced latency of up to 50% for activities such as gaming, streaming, and video calls in a high-traffic environment.
Post-trial, Singtel has plans to extend commercialization of the AI capability across its markets starting from Singapore. The company will also study follow-on investments in AI-enabled applications using Qualcomm’s Dragonwing NPro 7 and N7 Platforms to further improve the customer experience and connectivity performance.
Mr Jorge Fernandes, Group Chief Technology Officer, Singtel, said, “In today’s hyper-connected world where households rely heavily on uninterrupted high-speed connectivity for work, entertainment, and the operation of smart home devices, effective traffic management is imperative. Through this collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, we’re setting new benchmarks in home connectivity by harnessing the power of AI to deliver seamless bandwidth allocation and energy optimisation that will boost our customers’ connectivity experience. Together, we will continue exploring new innovations to support the evolving digital needs of our customers.”
With this initiative, Singtel seeks to support various increasing technological requirements and add value to the nation’s broadband infrastructure. The previous year, it became the first fixed broadband service provider to implement an international standard for Wi-Fi management – by the Broadband Forum TR-369, thus improving interoperability between networks and devices.
This home WiFi Gateway experiment with AI is part of a Memorandum of Understanding that Singtel and Qualcomm Technologies entered into concerning their commitment to push the development and deployment of AI-driven connectivity solutions.
Mr ST Liew, Vice President & President, QC Taiwan, SEA and ANZ, said, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Singtel Singapore on this groundbreaking AI Gateway initiative, marking a significant step forward in our shared vision of harnessing the power of AI at the network edge. By leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ AI capabilities, we aim to revolutionise connectivity and enhance user experiences. We look forward to continuing our work with Singtel Group to bring transformative AI solutions to market.”
This AI-powered smart gateway is expected to take forward Singtel’s efforts toward commercial deployment of an AI-powered smart gateway, which further improves network efficiency, reduces congestion, and delivers seamless digital experiences for customers. This is in line with its leadership in broadband innovation and commitment to integrating AI for shaping next-generation connectivity solutions.
