Bangkok, Thailand, November 8, 2024-Three telecommunications giants, TM Forum, and Huawei, working with industry partners presented the joint collaboration titled “Autonomous Networks Levels Evaluation Whitepaper” at TM Forum Innovate Asia Summit in Bangkok.
The Report which also sets a basis of standards and guidelines over the autonomous network levels (ANL) — represents a crucial milestone for the future of solutions that develop automation and intelligence for networks used by telecommunication services providers across the globe.
It has also issued the first ANL certificates to a group of operators verifying the completion of the assessment, thus reinforcing the trend towards fully augmented networks.
Referring to the 2019 collaborative effort, the paper introduces the ANL framework– a universal indicator that gauges the level of operational network autonomy within an operator’s assets encompassing, ICT systems through to agile operations.
It aims at reducing operational costs and improving network design by evaluating an operator’s ability to automate and efficiently control their network resources.
“The ANL evaluation allows for an incremental approach for operators to increase their network autonomy,”
Remarked George Glass, TM Forum’s CTO.
“It is an evolution for the control of sophisticated structures.”
As part of the second evaluation phase, this assessment evaluated Indonesian operator IOH and Thailand’s AIS stating that these two operators were the first to conform to ANL standards. In the case of IOH, the said evaluation placed high emphasis on optimal core network design and comprehensive failover management.
“We take pride in being thoroughly automated in terms of our network architecture and disaster recovery because it reflects our drive for innovation,”
Remarked Vikram Sinha, Chief Executive Officer at IOH.
The paper documents the current work and provides glimpses into how autonomous networks may evolve in the future proposing key use cases and frameworks up to the year 2027.
As the work is being advanced by both Huawei and TM Forum, they hint at the future precipitating of mobile AI and the end of range intelligent networks which will forever transform telecom efficiencies.
