Volkswagen Unveils AI-Based Automated Driving System

According to the latest announcement, Volkswagen Group will exhibit its first indigenous automated driving systems with artificial intelligence at the Shanghai Auto Show, which is trained by GAIA.

Volkswagen Boost “In China, for China” Vision

The AI-powered system is developed by Carizon, which is a joint venture between VW’s software division Cariad and Beijing’s Horizon Robotics. 

Car enthusiasts will be able to see the upcoming launch of Volkswagen-branded EV later this year. Later on, the system will be integrated into a series of affordable electric models based on the China-specific Compact Main Platform in 2026. 

The launch is part of Volkswagen’s “In China, for China” campaign. The system provides highly precise and fully safety-based driving functions with up to Level 2++, which opens the door for the further advancement of Level 3. 

According to the official blog post, Volkswagen will integrate the new ADS into the fleet of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV). It will help the company expand automated driving more accessible to more customers. 

Ralf Brandstätter, Volkswagen AG Group Board Member for China, said, “The rapid progress in developing our new ADAS system highlights CARIZON’s technical capabilities and the implementation strength of our ‘In China, for China’ strategy. 

He added further, “We are developing cutting-edge technology locally—at ‘China Speed’—tailored to our Chinese customers, with the highest standards in driving performance, safety and quality.”
