The leading messaging and calling app, WhatsApp’s users are going to see integration of new artificial intelligence (AI) features. In the latest beta update, the app contains two new AI-based features; a Meta AI widget for quick chatbot access and AI-generated group icons.
Meta AI Widget: Instant Access to AI Assistance on WhatsApp
One of the main additions is the Meta AI widget, which is designed to let users interact with the Chatbot directly from their home screen. This removes the need to open WhatsApp manually, which makes AI assistance more accessible.
First reported by WABetaInfo, the widget is currently available to limited beta testers with Android version 2.25.6.14. It includes various functions, including text-based AI queries, voice mode activation, and even image uploads for AI analysis.
The widget is also resizable, which allows users to adjust it to customize it according to their preferences. However, it is only accessible to those who already have Meta AI-enabled within WhatsApp.
The new feature is powered by Meta’s LIama larger language model, the AI features are expected to provide tough competition to rivals like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. At the home screen, users can now take advantage of AI features.
AI-Generated Group Icons: Fun in Moderation
Another feature in the latest beta version allows users to create group icons using AI. With just a simple prompt, Meta AI generates multiple icon options. It helps to create a personalized touch to group chats.
To use this feature, users can tap the pencil icon on their group’s display picture and select the new “Create AI Image” option. However, some critics raised concerns over privacy as it lacks practical value.
While WhatsApp is currently working hard to clear the fog around encryption and privacy practices, some users remain skeptical about the extent of AI integration. Questions also arise about whether Meta will extend AI-generated images to profile pictures or chat backgrounds in future updates.
