Central Wisconsin Launches Revolutionary AI Center for Business and Workforce Training

Wausau, Wisconsin (October 29, 2024) – In a vital step to advance artificial intelligence adoption in the Midwest, the Central Wisconsin AI Center (CWAIC) is set to launch this week, marking a pioneering collaboration between major educational institutions and business leaders.

Based in Wausau, the initiative brings together the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Northcentral Technical College (NTC), and the University of Wisconsin-Stout, alongside the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce and Midpoint Consulting. The launch of the center will take place in a press event on November 1 at Timberwolf Conference Center.

“As the workforce evolves, NTC is committed to providing educational opportunities in AI that empower workers and businesses across diverse industries we support including agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, and more,” states Jeannie Worden, NTC President, highlighting the center’s focus on sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare.

The initiative addresses critical regional needs, with UW-Stevens Point Chancellor Thomas Gibson emphasizing their role in K-12 education:

“We will support current and future educators in leveraging AI technologies in the classroom that will help students excel in a rapidly changing technological landscape. Our Continuing Education and Outreach’s customized training and expertise is also a great resource to support regional employers looking to advance AI in their organization.

UW-Stout Chancellor Katherine Frank outlines the broader vision:

“Our polytechnic approach positions us to support AI innovation-ready companies through product development and integration expertise. Our collaborative efforts with the center will foster the next generation of AI-driven solutions and tools that will benefit industries far and wide.

Dave Eckmann, Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, underscores the urgency:

“The rapid rise and deployment of artificial intelligence is accelerating a pace of technological change that will disrupt any business in every industry sector. The CWAIC will ensure companies and working professionals have access to AI tools that will allow for growth and prosperity.

The center is designed to represent a strategic response to the growing demand for AI expertise in the region, aiming to position Central Wisconsin as a hub for technological innovation and workforce development.
