Pro-XRP lawyer Fred Rispoli has expressed a surprising endorsement of Grok AI, Elon Musk’s chatbot. Writing on X, he shared his evolving perspective, first criticizing the AI platform based on his initial experience. However, he listed the positives thereafter.

On X, Rispoli wrote, “Two months ago, I would have dismissed Grok AI as worthless. Now, I rely on it for discovery, depositions, settlement demands, and more. My sincere congratulations to the development team.”
This unexpected praise comes as Musk’s company, xAI, sheds light on a long-teased feature for Grok. Almost a year after Musk hinted at a mysterious “Unhinged Mode” for the AI, xAI has updated the chatbot’s FAQ page to explain its purpose. According to the company, Unhinged Mode is designed to deliver responses that are “intended to be objectionable, inappropriate, and offensive,” likening it to an “amateur stand-up comic” still honing their craft.

Currently, this mode is not operational. TechCrunch attempted to access the feature through Grok’s interface on X but found no evidence of its implementation. Nevertheless, Unhinged Mode aligns with Musk’s initial vision for Grok as an unfiltered alternative to mainstream AI tools.
When Musk first introduced Grok nearly two years ago, he envisioned it as a bold, uncensored chatbot capable of addressing controversial topics avoided by other AI systems. Grok partially fulfills this vision, occasionally using profanity or colorful expressions when prompted. However, it still hesitates on sensitive political topics.

Critics note that Grok AI appears to lean toward progressive positions on issues such as transgender rights and diversity initiatives. A study even found that the AI exhibits a left-leaning bias on topics like inequality. Musk has attributed this behavior to the chatbot’s training data, primarily sourced from public web content. To address these concerns, he has vowed to steer Grok toward greater political neutrality.
Unhinged Mode could represent Musk’s effort to deliver on the unfiltered promise he originally made. While the feature may raise ethical concerns, it also highlights Musk’s ambition to distinguish Grok from more restrained AI systems like ChatGPT.
With legal professionals like Rispoli now embracing Grok for practical applications, the potential addition of Unhinged Mode may further broaden its appeal. However, it could also or spark heated debates about the role of AI in navigating controversial and sensitive matters.
