October 24, 2024, San Jose, California- Zoom has taken an aggressive stance that it aims to become an AI-first platform for business communication.
Responding to the Astral AI Podcast’s questions, Zoom CTO Xuedong (XD) Huang talked about how Zoom is embedding AI into its DNA by following a federated AI strategy in which multiple large models come into usage.
Leading such a change is the development of what they call AI Companion 2.0 which was first previewed during the Zoomtopia conference and is intended as a business productivity tool.
“We’re not simply improving away productivity, we’re looking at how businesses interconnect over AI,”
Said Xuedong Huang, Chief Technology Officer, Zoom.
Further, he stated that their purposes are not strictly AI-oriented, and mentioned a brand new term ‘AUI’ – Augmented User Interface – the one where conversational AI interacts with a graphical interface in order to improve workflows and efficiency.
The implementation of this strategy has the potential to enable Zoom to assume a commanding position in AI-enabled business solutions for the future.
While companies are beginning to integrate AI technologies into their operations, Zoom’s approach is interesting due to its multidimensional nature.
This approach allows the company to come up with such an AI model that incorporates other AI models in order to create effective tools for businesses.
This approach is also consistent with the company’s overall goal of reimagining digital collaboration to enhance return on investment (ROI) for businesses.
Zoom’s ongoing focus on AI isn’t just about enhancing productivity—it’s about reshaping the entire landscape of business communication. Huang also emphasized,
“AI will soon become the core driver of business growth and collaboration,”
Signaling that businesses should prepare for more AI-driven tools and processes. While the transformation is still unfolding, industry leaders are already paying attention to Zoom’s bold AI-first direction.
